One thing to mention is that this technique is slightly more advanced. I recommend trying after you have already started making Macarons successfully and consistently. It can be harder to make a Swirl Macaron if you are struggling to get your Macarons to bake properly from the beginning.
Quality Macaron Shells are the key to a pretty swirl. Without a good shell foundation the swirl will just look sloppy once it has baked. If you're struggling to get your shells to bake properly I would suggest giving my favorite Macaron Recipes a try. I use every single time with perfect results. If your shells are coming out of the oven beautifully tray after tray, you're ready for Step 2.
Gather one regular sized dinner plate, a box of seran wrap, your food grade paint brush, and two gel food colors of your liking. Lay a piece of seran wrap over the plate enough to have a 2 inch excess on each end.
Make your Macaron Recipe as you normally would adding the lighter of the two colors your chose into your batter.
Now it's time for the dinner plate covered in seran wrap, paint brush, and the darker of the two colors you chose in Step 2. . Using your food grade paint brush and paint three 1/4 inch lines from top to the bottom of the seran wrap. It is important to make sure the food gel reaches the top & bottom so that every Macaron has the swirl design.Close serwarp and place it in your piping bag.
Using your favoring baking sheets pipe then bake your Macarons just as you normally would. Remove from oven and let cool on baking sheet.
